Team India’s spectacular run at the ongoing 50th annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) has captivated the railbirds back home. From established pros like Aditya Sushant (13th for ₹12.09 Lakhs in Event #28: $1K NLHE) and Young Gun Abhinav Iyer (75th for ₹3.78 Lakhs in Event #26: $2,620 NLHE Marathon) to budding players like Yasheel Doddanavar a (16th for ₹12.82 Lakhs in Event #31: $3K NLHE 6-Handed), the Indian battalion has persisted with its quest for the country’s first solo bracelet.

Nonetheless, the action on the home soil hasn’t been lacking either, especially on the virtual front. The big aberration this week at PokerBaazi was a decline in the number of entries in its mainstay weekly tournament – Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD. The event registered 470 entries (includes 172 re-entries) yesterday, in comparison to the 519 entries (includes 220 re-entries) recorded last week. Decimating the field to capture the title was Vaibhav ‘WakhraSwagNi’ Sharma who pocketed ₹5.02 Lakhs in prize money.

However, Sharma wasn’t the only big winner on PokerBaazi. Srihari ‘bangbang999’ Bang (BSS Megastack ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.24 Lakhs), ulimpiraise (BSS PLO ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.24 Lakhs), Ram mowgumotu Kakkar (Weekly Super 5 ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹77,250) and raavan369’ (Sunday ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹17,500), also raked in the big paydays.

After two weeks of steadily smashing the reduced ₹15 Lakhs guarantee in its Sunday signature event, i.e., Sunday Special – Progressive KO ₹15 Lakhs GTD, PokerStars India had to fill in an overlay of about ₹60,000 yesterday with the event managing only 262 entries (153 unique and 109 re-entries). Online phenom and DPT Xpress Goa ₹15K Main Event champion, Anant Dr4gonW4rrior Purohit blew away the competition as he secured yet another win for himself, following a heads-up chop. Purohit bagged ₹3.27 Lakhs, while runner-up Arpan Vasusenaa Majhi walked away with ₹1.67 Lakhs.

While PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Ahuja seems to be enjoying his WSOP debut, having already posted three scores at the series and presently carrying a massive stack to Day 3 in Event #34: $1,000 Double Stack No-Limit Hold’em, his fellow Team Ambassadors back home have also been running deep in several online tournaments. Leading from the front was Vishal ‘Vishalb22’ Bajaj who put his multi-tabling skills to the test and with success by taking down both The Classic ₹2.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹61,364 and Sunday Stars ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹40,422 on PokerStars India last night.

Laksh ‘boomtlt23’ Pal Singh (7th for ₹84,000) final tabled the BSS SuperStack, while Devrat ‘flopCheck’ Arya (8th for ₹16,600), Nadeem SpadeHunter Basha (12th for 9,050) and Faiz AilaGaya Alam (13th for 7,450) posted deep runs in the BSS Megastack.

Jayjit ‘unlucky2k’ Ray (7th for ₹61,473), Ashish chipcharity999 Munot (12th for ₹18,467), Parikshit ‘Zapdos123’ Dhall (25th for ₹9,659), Rony GoGetters1 Chowdhury (26th for ₹14,659), Gokul Haxton Jr Raj (27th for ₹11,379), Nadeem Downtownplaya Basha (29th for ₹8,879), Ankit b00mtr00p3r Wadhawan (33rd for ₹19,660) and Laksh Pal B00MTilt23’ Singh (36th for ₹13,879), all cashed the Sunday Special.

Another consistent winner, Mithun ‘ThePokeRajaIN’ Mahesh collected three final tables scores yesterday, namely in the BSS Megastack (runner-up for ₹87,150), The Classic (4th for ₹25,877) and the Sunday Stars (3rd for ₹25,683).

Rony ‘GoGetters1’ Chowdhury (21st for ₹2,139 in Sunday Warm-Up) and Devrat bhasm@sur1 Arya (12th for ₹2,507 in Sunday Supersonic) round out the major Sunday scores by the team.

The other winners on PokerStars India were ‘anandsankar’ (Sunday Warm-Up ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹31,249), CantBelieveIwon (Sunday Supersonic ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹22,553), and Rahul f@ta1ity Agrawal (Sunday Storm ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹19,082).

Fast-growing poker site Khelo 365 crowned winners in three high-value tournaments including ‘mjreddy’ (Twister ₹2 Lakh GTD for ₹92,000), naryaresh (Big Bang ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹50,000) and shatsy93 (Deep Stack ₹40K GTD for ₹18,400).

At the start of the month PokerStars India had decided to pull down the guarantee of its Sunday flagship tournament, Sunday Special – Progressive KO ₹15 Lakhs GTD, from ₹20 Lakhs to ₹15 Lakhs which seemed to have checked the overlay strain on the site at least these last two Sundays. However, this past Sunday saw a slight drop in the number of entries resulting in an overlay. The event attracted 262 entries (153 unique and 109 re-entries) that caused an overlay of approximately ₹60,000.

Online regular Anant ‘Dr4gonW4rrior’ Purohit, who recently claimed his maiden live title in the ₹15K Main Event at DPT Xpress Goa for ₹7.40 Lakhs, has continued his winning streak taking down the Sunday Special following a heads-up chop with eventual runner-up Arpan ‘Vasusenaa’ Majhi. While Majhi walked away with ₹1.67 Lakhs, Purohit locked in ₹3.27 Lakhs for his win.

PokerGuru Ambassador Jayjit ‘unlucky2k’ Ray (7th for ₹61,473) final tabled the event, while his fellow Team Ambassadors Ashish ‘chipcharity999’ Munot (12th for ₹18,467), Parikshit ‘Zapdos123’ Dhall (25th for ₹9,659), Rony ‘GoGetters1’ Chowdhury (26th for ₹14,659), Gokul ‘Haxton Jr’ Raj (27th for ₹11,379), Nadeem ‘Downtownplaya’ Basha (29th for ₹8,879), Ankit ‘b00mtr00p3r’ Wadhawan (33rd for ₹19,660) and Laksh Pal ‘B00MTilt23’ Singh (36th for ₹13,879), all made it in the money.
